Safety is always our number one priority, and that includes the safety of our people, the communities we operate in, and the environment.
On 13th December 2023 an incident occurred at the GES Amsterdam terminal. As part of an assignment, 24 rail cars were released from the GES Amsterdam terminal to the rail marshalling yard ahead of an assignment. These rail cars contained petroleum products.
When the rail cars reached the yard, it was discovered that hatches on some of the rail cars were not properly secured. The assignment was stopped, and the rail cars were returned to the terminal for unloading and further inspection.
At no point did any damage or harm occur to people or the environment.
Throughout this incident, GES worked closely with the IL&T and followed all necessary rules, regulations and instructions. In addition, we immediately set up our own independent internal investigation, which was led by major international law firm DLA piper.
Following our internal investigation, we can confirm that several changes have been made such that this type of event can never happen again, including but not limited to our procedures, checks and balances and training process.
